Geneva Oliverie is a nonresident fellow at the Global South Policy Hub. She is a dynamic, impact-driven development strategist with more than a decade of experience in international trade, development policy, and global economic governance. Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to sustainable development, economic transformation, and social empowerment, with a particular focus on advancing resilience and equity in climate-vulnerable regions.

Geneva has built a distinguished career across the public, private, and civil society sectors. Her professional experience includes key roles at the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Trinidad and Tobago, where she represented the country on the CARICOM Rights of Establishment Committee, the national body responsible for enforcing core elements of regional integration policy. She has also served as a trade policy consultant with the ANSA McAL Group of Companies and as a development specialist at the Caribbean Policy Development Centre in Barbados, where she worked at the intersection of research, advocacy, and regional policy reform.

Currently, Geneva serves as deputy director of international financial reform at the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF)-V20 Secretariat, where she plays a central role in shaping the coalition’s agenda on reforming the global financial architecture. Her work focuses on redirecting international financial flows toward debt relief, investment adequacy, and climate-resilient development for vulnerable economies, particularly small island and low- and middle-income countries facing acute climate and debt risks.

Among her notable contributions, Geneva coordinated the development of an Online Debt Monitoring and Advocacy Hub, a pioneering regional tool designed to strengthen understanding of debt dynamics and their developmental implications. She has also led research to advance a CARICOM food systems framework for small and medium-scale producers, helping to foster an enabling ecosystem for resilience, productivity, and inclusive growth. In addition, she regularly represents the Caribbean in high-level international policy forums, ensuring that regional priorities and perspectives are reflected in global reform debates.

Geneva holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a bachelor’s degree in labor and employment relations from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, and a master’s degree in international trade policy from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
