WASHINGTON, Sept. 30. 2026— The Global South Policy Hub (GSPH), a nonpartisan Global South-led think tank based in Washington, D.C., will lead its inaugural educational trip to South Africa from Oct. 5-9. The trip will bring seven senior U.S. congressional staffers to Johannesburg for direct dialogue with South African and Global South policymakers and experts.
Over five days, the delegation will take part in policy dialogues and guided site visits. Delegates will meet with policy experts from across the Global South, officials from regional organizations, and representatives of the South African government. Sessions will focus on U.S. relations with Global South countries, including South Africa, the future of multilateralism, reform of the international financial architecture, and development-oriented strategies for critical minerals.
The fact-finding trip comes amid profound changes within the multilateral system. The delegation will discuss U.S.-South Africa relations and how bilateral and multilateral cooperation can advance shared economic and development priorities.
“Washington's conversations about the Global South are too often held without Global South voices in the room. This delegation addresses that conundrum. It offers congressional staffers an opportunity to hear directly from senior scholars, policymakers, and communities from the Global South about how the challenges they face locally connect with U.S. foreign policy and global governance,” said GSPH Executive Director Aude Darnal.
The trip is the centerpiece of the Congress Connect Fellowship, GSPH's program for senior U.S. congressional staffers, designed to deepen their understanding of Global South perspectives on U.S. foreign policy and global governance.
