Nicolás M. Perrone is a nonresident fellow at the Global South Policy Hub. He is a professor of economic law and director of the Center for Law, Regulation, and Sustainable Economics at Universidad de Valparaíso in Chile. He is editor-in-chief of the Business and Human Rights Journal (Cambridge University Press). Perrone’s research focuses on sustainable development and international economic law, particularly international investment law and policy. Nicolás has advised governments in Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador, as well as international organizations and civil society groups, including the OECD, UNCTAD, APEC, the South Centre, the International Institute for Environment and Development, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Climate Action Network, and the Fairtrade Foundation.

Nicolás has been a visiting professor at the University of Torino, Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Arizona, the National University of San Martín, the International University College of Torino, and the University of Eastern Piedmont. He has also been affiliated with Harvard Law School’s Institute for Global Law and Policy and served as a visiting lecturer at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He has received competitive research grants from Chile’s National Research Council (Fondecyt) in 2022 and 2025, the Hewlett Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. He is the author of Investment Treaties and the Legal Imagination (Oxford University Press, 2021) and writes public commentary for outlets including The Guardian.
