Portrait of Andrea Cano

Andrea Cano is a Junior Fellow at the Global South Policy Hub.

She began her career working on international development and migration policy during her undergraduate years through research opportunities in Washington, D.C. She later held roles with the United Nations and the World Bank, where she conducted research on cross-border mobility, development programming, and policy implementation. Her work has focused on understanding how global migration trends intersect with development priorities and international cooperation.

Andrea also worked at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, where she served as Associate Manager for Congressional Internship Programs and supported leadership development initiatives designed to expand access to public service opportunities for emerging Latino leaders.

Her current work focuses on advancing equitable migration governance, particularly at the intersection of climate change, displacement, and human mobility. She is also interested in strengthening global health security in the context of cross-border movement and amplifying Global South perspectives in international policy discussions.

Andrea holds a B.S. in Foreign Service and an M.A. in International Migration and Refugee Studies from Georgetown University. Born in Mexico to Mexican and Colombian parents and raised in New York, she brings a transnational perspective to her work, shaped by both lived experience and academic engagement with the global south.
